When it comes to our iPhones, convenience is key, and that’s why so many of us are curious about wireless charging. If you’re wondering whether the iPhone 7 has this handy feature, I’m here to help.

The truth is the iPhone 7 does not have built-in wireless charging capabilities. But don’t fret – there are still ways to “achieve” wireless charging for your iPhone 7, using third-party accessories that can make life a little easier, and we’ll cover that in this article.

Sit tight, and I’ll share some tips for getting your iPhone 7 to charge without plugging it in.

Does iPhone 7 Support Wireless Charging

I’ve been asked many times if the iPhone 7 supports wireless charging. While I wish I could give a straightforward yes or no, the answer is more nuanced.

The short version is that, out of the box, the iPhone 7 does not have built-in wireless charging like the iPhone 8 and later models. However, there’s no need to worry! We can find a way around this. Third-party accessories do exist to enable the function.

However, this requires purchasing separate accessories and may not provide the same seamless experience as phones with built-in wireless charging capabilities. That said, I’ve discovered that with a little help from a couple of Qi-enabled accessories, you can enable wireless charging on your iPhone 7.

If you’re not familiar with Qi, it’s an open interface standard developed and maintained by the Wireless Power Consortium, and it’s what most wireless chargers use nowadays.

First, you’ll need an inductive charging case to set up your iPhone 7 for wireless charging. This case contains an induction coil, which, when placed on a charging pad or base station, generates electrical current and charges the battery. This is the same technology utilized by Qi-certified wireless charging pads.

Once you’ve purchased and snapped on one of these cases, you must put your iPhone 7 on a compatible Qi charging pad or base station and let the magic happen.

It might not be as seamless or fast as Apple’s official wireless charging on newer models, but it’s certainly a neat workaround to join the wireless charging club for us iPhone 7 users.

So, while the iPhone 7 might not have wireless charging built-in, it’s still possible to enjoy the convenience of wirelessly charging your device. All it takes are those two additional accessories: an inductive charging case and a Qi charging pad.

One option is to invest in a wireless charging case, such as the Mophie Juice Pack Air or Antye Qi receiver case.

These cases have Qi wireless charging receivers built into them, making them compatible with Qi-certified charging pads. It’s affordable and allows charging your iPhone 7 on any Qi-compatible pad. I’ve found them handy when I’m out and about, especially at cafés and airports.

If you prefer to use your existing case or don’t want a bulky battery case, you can opt for a wireless charging adapter. These adapters have a thin film or pad connecting to your iPhone’s Lightning port. Once connected, they enable Qi-certified wireless charging capabilities for your phone.

These adapters can easily be hidden under your existing phone case, giving you a sleek look while still enjoying the convenience of wireless charging.

One option on the market is the Qi-compatible wireless receiver. Simply attach the receiver, place your iPhone on a wireless charging pad, and let it do its magic!
